sorry for the mediocre-to-marginally bad email last night. i was a wee
intoxicated and typing on rory's laptop (which is nearly impossible to use).
needless to say, i was experiencing technical difficulties.

i still contend that, at base, punk rock was/is supposed to be about
tolerance and acceptance (here on in, referred to t&a. ha, t&a. funny). i
feel that t&a was the fundamental core, though it was masked in a guise of
rejection and outrageous hairstyles. the rejection demonstrated by punks
was that of societal indifference and (a well needed) lack of respect. it
was about widening the margins of societal t&a by pushing things to the
limit. by having a mohawk, the punk was saying "fuck off, you sods, i won't
do what you tell me (this particular punk is british)." though seemingly
rejectionist, i feel this demonstrates an attempt to make the unacceptable,
acceptable. i also believe that there developed a link between punk rock
and leftist social movements and politics. this is not to brand all punks
as pinkos (or even worse, anarchists.... gulp), but rather a generalization.
for every song about homosexualism, welfare mothers, and poverty, there
are songs about beer, drugs, and (the real) t&a. still, i maintain that you
are less likely to see fag-bashing (to steal a favorite neo-nazi activity)
around a group of punks, then let's say, jocks or something.

also remember that punks today aren't traditional (in the mohawk, leather
jacket with spikes, army boots, and chains sorta way) because i feel that to
remain static would have undermined their progressive ideals.

despite what you suggest, like politics, skating was also adopted by punks
as an identity. i suggest you watch a show/play videogames on skateboarding
(whatever, push a kid off his skateboard and ask him what his favorite band
is) and i will guarantee that the soundtrack/cd will consist of punkbands.
100% guarantee. i'll wager money on it. $200. no joke.

as you may be able to tell, i was not martyrized last night. the party
wasn't what i expected, nor were there any crows there (there were horses,
but no crows). i wasn't about to waste martyrdom on that crowd. no thanks.
though it would have been cool - there was a bonfire and everything.

best go get ready. i kinda wanna go swimming.

satan's,

mishka
